Wicked Good Fruit!

Halloween week has your Seattle area office team getting the best citrus of the season. These little mandarins pack a wallop of pure orange taste- crisp, tart-sweet and delicious. A great choice to help keep the flu away. The organic Concorde pears are in limited supply, but I got my hands on 35 cases this week. Concorde, along with Comice and Taylor' Gold pears, are sweet all through their season. You cannot go wrong buying one of these excellent varieties. I'll see if we can keep them in your office mix. The Sweetie apple sure lives up to its name. It is super sweet, crisp, and juicy. One of the sweetest apples I ever had. Plus you'll see the last organic Hiromi plums. And we finish o

"Fresh Fruit Friday" grocery report

Every year I personally buy and deliver over 300,000 pounds of fruit for you, my office customers. Every week I shop hard, seeking out just the best fruit at the breaking point of ripeness. And I want to share my fruit expertise with you. Healthy snacking is a lifestyle. So I want to help you eat healthy everywhere and not just at work. Here's my "Fresh Fruit Friday" tip for your family grocery list. Choose the smaller "Sesame" Mandarins (5-stars on the left in this photo) over the larger Satsumas from California. The Mandarins are AMAZING! They are firm, super sweet and have a very bright color and citrus taste. Your kids will smile and ask for more. On the right of this photo are the

Pumpkin is a type of winter squash that belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. While commonly viewed as a vegetable, pumpkin is scientifically a fruit, as it contains seeds. Two organic stone fruit and new Nikita apples

This week farmer MacGregor from Tiny's Organics turned me onto his Hiromi plums and Flavorich pluots. I like buying from him because he picks them just for us a day before we pack. When left to tree-ripen, you get a better fruit. They are sweet, crisp and not too juicy, and a real taste treat. I hope to keep them coming through the end of the month. The Nikita apple flesh is firm, white, and fragrant, and the texture is both crunchy and slightly effervescent. Nikitas have a balanced sweet and tart flavor. They are especially juicy, a trait reminiscent of their Gala parent. Although Nikitas look similar to their Jazz sibling, they have a more delicate flavor. You'll also see Cherub cherry

Apples are not just crunchy, sweet and satisfying. As part of a smart diet, they can help protect against serious diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and more. Stunning Pristine grapes, snack-size Bartlett pears and Flavorich pluots!

A new variety of late season seedless green grapes, the Pristine is the result of 20 years of methodical cross-breeding by a grower in Central California. The result is an unusually large grape with good shelf life. This fruit has an altogether unique flavor that starts with a hint of vanilla and finishes with a crisp tart-sweetness, reminiscent of green apples! The Bartlett pears are in peak season and their smaller size makes them an easy-to-eat healthy office snack for one. Even if pears are not your favorite I feel you'll like the sweetness and firm texture of these little cuties. Great sliced onto a cracker with a low-fat cheese. Flavorich pluots from Tiny's Organics are both firm and s

Five Reasons Employee Wellness Is Worth the Investment

As a number of companies – small and large, start-up to industry titan – offer workplace health programs to their employees, the debate about the effectiveness of such programs continues. While there are concerns about privacy and efficacy, research continues to show that promoting healthy habits to employees – be it through intensive programs or structural and cultural support (e.g., an on-site gym and encouragement to use it during the lunch break) – is an effective way to benefit both employer and employee.
