Here Comes the Stone Fruit!

While our Washington State Stone Fruit isn't quite ready yet, we've been able to secure some of California's best!  This week enjoy some beautiful White Peaches and delicious Yellow Nectarines.

California is the largest producer of peaches, plums and nectarines. Most are grown in the San Joaquin Valley, just south of Fresno, California. In fact, California produces over 90 percent of the nectarines and plums grown in the U.S. and provides approximately 60 percent of all the peaches.

A stone fruit, also called a drupe, is a fruit with a large "stone" inside. The stone is sometimes called the seed, but that is a mistake, as the seed is inside the stone. The stones can also be called a pit.

Examples of stone fruits are peaches, nectarines, plums, lychees, mangoes, almonds, apricots and cherries. These fruits are edible and used frequently in cooking.  Other fleshy fruits may have a stony enclosure that comes from the seed coat surrounding the seed, but such fruits are not drupes.

Also, this week enjoy:

- Timco Red Grapes
- California Navel Oranges
- Washington Extra Fancy Premium Pink Lady Apples
- Rainforest Alliance-Certified Bananas
